Academy grows from strength to strength

A local soccer training academy is becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Reggie’s Academy of Jeffreys Bay won the recent Easter Tournament without losing a single one of the seven matches they played to qualify for the final.

Eighteen teams, including top clubs from Kouga and further afield, took part in the tournament, which was contested at the Tokyo Sexwale Sport Stadium and Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive High School.

Reggie’s Academy scored three goals in the final to beat City All Stars, who were only able to secure one goal.

The Easter Tourney champions beat CCX Callies three-one in the semi-finals to secure their place in the final while City All Stars sent Black Vultures home with their two-one victory in the semis.

Kouga Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks congratulated Reggie’s Academy on the victory. “They were also the host of the tourney, which made the victory all the more special for them,” he said.

He further thanked all the local clubs that supported soccer development in the region.

“Our local soccer clubs and training academies such as Reggie’s are doing a great job among our youth,” he said.

“The Kouga region has a wealth of talent and we would like to see more tournaments of this nature taking place to increase the number of young people taking part in the sport and grow the support base.”
