GOOD . . . better . . . best . . . Anton van Kampen.
Van Kampen, a teacher at Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp, recently received the prestigious Eastern Cape IITPSA 2019 Compu-ter Applications Technology (CAT) Teacher of the Year Award at a gala event in Port Elizabeth.
The sought-after award recognises a teacher of CAT at an Eastern Cape school who has demonstrated outstanding CAT teaching over the past year.
Van Kampen, a knowledgeable and passionate CAT teacher, boasts 17 years of experience in computer- related subjects – both provincial and national.
He has furthermore been the subject head of CAT and IT since 2007 and was recently promoted to Head of Department and Technical Subjects at the school.
According to fellow Nico Malan teacher, Mirande Steffens, he goes the extra mile to show and explain to learners the value of CAT as a subject – not just in school, but also after school and for tertiary studies.
“He makes the classes fun and interesting, but at the same time, incorporates discipline. Van Kampen furthermore teaches interested students how to fix computers, basic troubleshooting and removing and replacing parts such as RAM and CPU.
“His passion and vigour motivate learners to perform at their best and to excel.”
Apart from teaching, Van Kampen is solely responsible for the maintenance of the more than a 100 compu-ters and network at the school.
