THE family of Whaydon Potberg, a five–year–old boy from Ocean View, are mourning his tragic death after he was electrocuted by illegal electricity connections while playing a few feet away from his house in Ocean View Drive on November 18.

According to Whaydon’s mother, Allison Potberg, her son and his friends were playing in the street when his cousin ran into the house to tell them that Whaydon was “buzzing” and “shocking” at about 18:20.

Whaydon’s older cousin then ran outside to find him and tried to pick him up, but was also electrocuted while trying to help him.

“When his cousin found him, Whaydon was lying in a small pool of water. There was a live electrical wire in the water which resulted in his cousin also getting electrocuted when he tried to help him,” said Potberg.

Fortunately, his cousin did not sustain any injuries when he was electrocuted.

She said her neighbour was able to pick Whaydon up, but by the time they got home and placed him on the couch he had already passed away.

“I tried my best to wake him, but he was just lying on the couch and not moving,” said Potberg.

She said once the ambulance arrived it was confirmed that Whaydon was deceased. Since her son’s tragic death, Potberg said she has been in a lot of emotional pain.
