THE annual ECCU Canoe Marathon Championship for 2019 is set to paddle off in St Francis Bay on June 1 and 2.

The route, consisting of 4.1km laps and 100m to 400m sprints, will start at Quaysyde.

Apart from top local and national paddlers, junior paddlers Nazeen Davids, Berven Titus, Qaqambile Tai, Junior Jacobs, Rodger Smith, Riadan Baadjies and Dillan Cupido from the St Francis Paddling Club will also take to the water in the u.14- and u.16-category.

They will have to paddle for 15km, during which the young paddlers must get out of the water – twice – for a 100m sprint, carrying their canoes on their shoulder.

Six of these paddlers competed at the recent SA Schools Canoe Marathon.

Participants will take to the water at 09:00 on both days, while registration is at 07.30.

Lucky draw prizes will be up for grabs.
