Caltex Wavelands in St Francis Street, Jeffreys Bay is now 100% ‘grey’ at its newly upgraded wash bay – a first for the Kouga region.

Reducing municipal water usage by 90%, the grey water recycling plant at the wash bay recycles used car wash water through a chemical treatment process, cleaning the water of impurities such as soap, grease and dirt, and then pumps it back into the car wash system.

The remaining 10% is topped up with water bought from a local supplier.

A rainwater storage system is installed in conjunction with this, further reducing the need for municipal water – taking the wash bay 100% off the municipal grid.

Vincent Tee, owner of Caltex Wavelands, says, “Water is precious and we all have to do our bit to conserve it, especially as dam levels in the Eastern Cape continue to drop. The provincial water storage has declined to 49.6%, with the Kouga Dam at 34.4% last week and the Loerie Dam at 48.5%.

“The upgraded wash bay will have a profound impact on water conservation and is certainly the way forward.”

Apart from saving water, the improved and bigger drive-through wash bay will also significantly reduce waiting time for motorists wanting to wash their vehicles.

Motorists having their vehicles washed on Saturday, November 16, will receive a 20% discount, as well as a free coffee.
