Kareedouw, the heart of KouKamma’s agricultural industry, is in the running for the coveted Kwêla Town of the Year title for 2020.
The town was named the winner of the Eastern Cape round of the annual competition – beating two of the province’s well-known towns, Rhodes and Port Alfred, to claim the regional title.
Wilna Moolman, the driving force behind the entry into the competition, said they were elated to have won the Eastern Cape round.
“We are very excited that Kareedouw has been chosen to represent the Eastern Cape and would like to thank everyone who nominated the town,” she said.
She encouraged all residents – local and national – to throw their weight behind Kareedouw.
“Let’s take hands and ensure that Kareedouw is crowned the next Kwêla Town of the Year.
“This is a beautiful part of the world, with lots to do and see for visitors,” she said. “Should Kareedouw win, it will not only be a victory for the town, but a boost for the whole Langkloof, including Joubertina, Krakeel, Louterwater and Misgund.
Kareedouw will compete against Skukuza (Mpumalanga), Williston (Northern Cape), Port Edward (KwaZulu-Natal), Swellendam (Western Cape), Gariepdam (Free State), Tzaneen (Limpopo) and Heidelberg (Gau-teng).
The Kwêla Town of the Year competition is run through DSTV’s Kyknet channel and is now in its tenth year.
