CHILDREN between the ages of two and eight years old can colour in and win at the Humansdorp Plaasfees on Saturday, February 9.
Kouga Municipality’s popular colouring-in stall and mascot Splash will be at the festival to encourage the region’s youngest residents to join the fight against water wastage.
“The Kouga region is prone to drought and all of us, young and old, need to learn how to save water as part of our everyday lives,” Mayor Horatio Hendricks said.
The colouring-in competition will consist of three age categories: two to four years old, four to six years old and six to eight years old. There is no entry fee for the competition and children can also opt to colour in without submitting their picture for consideration.
The top three entries in each category will have the opportunity to meet the Mayor and receive their prizes following the festival.
“Each one of us has a role to play when it comes to water security,” Hendricks said.
“Children, in particular, are valuable allies in the fight against water wastage. A child who understands why saving water is important and knows how to make every drop count can help bring about the necessary behavioural changes in adults as well.”
The Plaasfees (“Farm Festival”) will take place at The Burns, just off the R102 between Humansdorp and Jeffreys Bay, and kicks off at 08:00 with a farm run.
There will be plenty of food and craft stalls, as well as entertainment by local and national artists.
The entry fee is R70 for adults and high school learners. Primary school learners and pensioners pay R30 while children five years old and younger enter free.
