In celebration of “Back to School”, Kouga Municipality invites all Grade 1 learners from schools across the region to participate in a colouring-in competition on the topic of water saving.

The specific picture to be coloured will be provided to participating schools.

“It is a very big job for our water-saving mascot, Splash, to spread the water-saving message as far and wide as possible, and he cannot do it alone,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks.

Hendricks said the municipality takes water saving seriously and commends all efforts of residents to save water.

Prizes

The schools of the three winning entries will each receive a water tank, while the artists of the winning entries will each receive a goodie bag.

The winning entries will also feature on the Kouga Municipality Facebook Page.

Rules:
  • Only Grade 1 learners in the Kouga region may enter.
  • Learners may only enter once for the duration of the competition and only one picture per entrant will be allowed.
  • Ensure that each picture is clearly marked on the back with the name of the school, name of the teacher, name of the learner, age of the learner and grade, as well as the contact details for the school. Unmarked pictures will not be judged.
  • Entries opened on Monday, January 23 and the competition ends on Thursday, February 23 at 12:00.
  • The winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 28.

Completed posters must be dropped off at Kouga Municipality offices at 33 Da Gama Road in Jeffreys Bay. Alternatively, the schools can contact Kouga Special Programmes Unit co-ordinator, Ivonique van Rensburg-Jacobs at 073 630 6532 and the picture entries will be collected.

Kouga Municipality will retain the pictures on completion of the competition.
