WINE . . . wine . . . and even more wine – with a splash of exquisite rum and gin.
The inaugural Wine on Water Festival (WOW) will take place in St Francis Bay from 12:00 to 19:00 on March 27 and 28, offering wine-lovers 120 of the best South African wines from 20 award-winning wine estates.
The wine estates include Babylonstoren, Chamonix, Highlands Road, Le Lude, Luka, Mellasat and Rudi Schultz Wines, as well as Muti Gin Distillery. They will be joined by Hogan Wines, Newton Johnson, Tokara and Warwick Estates, as well as One33 Rum distillery.
This unique, water-transported wine tasting event, organised by the Rotary Club of St Francis, will be based at Quaysyde, with wine tastings taking place on the decks of selected private homes on the canals over the two day period.
Water taxis will transport festival-goers to the various wine tasting stations. The hop-on hop-off experience will deliver the basics of any traditional wine tasting event: see, swirl, smell, sip and swallow.
It is a controlled environment, with water marshals, and systems in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone.
With the remarkable canal systems, the beautiful houses and the generous and accommodating local owners, the event is sure to be a winner.
The WOW committee also stated that they will be using local vendors and suppliers where possible, and will only be reaching out beyond the area if needed.
TOPS at the Superspar Village Square is the retail partner, and they will be processing wine orders for all customers. Woodlands Dairy will be supplying snacks at the tasting stations.
At sunset on both days, a whole new party will kick off at the Quaysyde Restaurant and marquee tent. There will be delicious, locally produced food , more craft drinks on offer, live music for all with the Grosvenor Road Band, and a whole lot of good times to be had.
The food on sale will be pizza from Quaysyde, and other food trucks and stands, including The Yellow Café for prego rolls, Gavin’s sushi, and The Cape St Francis Resort for calamari.
