RACE fans can look forward to a special treat when the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars take to the newly resurfaced Aldo Scribante Racetrack for the first time as the Extreme Festival South African national championship motor races visit Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday, July 14.
Racegoers will be treated to the fastest racing Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches and possibly even an Aston Martin and a Viper, racing door-to-door against some trick BMWs and Audis, while a contingent of local racers take on the up-country visitors.
Although Saturday will be their first visit to the Bay, the G&H Extreme Supercars have become a regular attraction at racetracks around South Africa and local race aficionados are eager for the action expected when the likes of Simon Murray and Ricky Giannoccoro’s Lamborghinis take to the track against Ferrari men, brothers Mark and Jonathan du Toit and Jimmy Giannoccoro.
A gang of Porsches steered by the likes of Franco and Dino Scribante, Ant Blunden and Nicky Dicks, and Dawie Olivier’s wild “Baby Beemer” will join them.
The racetrack, named after the late Aldo Scribante, will see three of his descendants racing, Dino, Franco and grandson Aldo, who will be one of four locals out to defend PE’s honour against the fleet of visiting vehicles.
Aldo’s familiar Audi and three more local favourites, Nick Davidson’s similar S4, Kevin Kelly’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Ian Riddle’s BMW will take it to up-country rivals, the likes of Gianni Gianoccoro, Kishoor Pitamber and Elwyn Steenkamp’s BMWs and Johan Hattingh in a Nissan 350Z.
That’s over and above the fraught battle at the front of the Sasol GTC, the Engen Polo Cup and the single-seater Investchem Formula 1600 chase on the Road to Indy, as well as two motorcycle classes in the Red Square Kawasaki ZX10 Masters and the Bridgestone Thunderbikes round off a spectacular race programme.
The Aldo Scribante Racetrack has benefited from a complete resurface in the build-up to the big day, with a little help from Scribante Construction.
