ON behalf of the Kouga Council, it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to Kouga for the summer holiday.
This year the focus of our Festive Season programme will be solidly on the family and we invite young and old to join us at Jeffreys Bay’s main beachfront on December 15 for the official opening of the season and again on December 31 for the countdown to the new year.
In an effort to prevent the illegal discharge of fireworks, this year’s opening and countdown will – for the first time – include a firework display. We will also be switching on the festive lights on December 15 and have arranged a visit by Father Christmas.
A host of other activities will be taking place throughout the season to help keep locals and visitors entertained.
Despite the recent rain, the combined levels of our storage dams remain dangerously low at just above 50%. Water restrictions are, therefore, still in place and the use of hosepipes or the filling up of swimming pools with municipal water are strictly prohibited.
I also wish to salute all those who will work throughout the season to help ensure a fun, safe and memorable holiday for everyone.
May we all come together this festive season as one big, happy and supportive family.
