THE inaugural Easter Swim is set to splash off at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay on Sunday, April 21 – a first for the region.
Presented by ZSports Events, the event will boast three races: 500m, 1km and 3km.
The day will kick off with the 500m race at 12:30, while the main events, the 1km and 3km swims, will leave the starting blocks at 13:00.
According to ZSports Events Marketing Manager Neil du Preez, the late start gives families the opportunity to enjoy a morning of activities and end the day off with a festive Easter swim.
“The event is open to anyone who is looking for a bit of outdoor exercise, and friendly competition or to test themselves against other swimmers,” says Du Preez.
“Marina Martinique, which is the venue of choice for the South African Open Water Swimming National Championships, is an enclosed marina with water pumped into it directly from the sea. The result is a venue ideal for swimming.
“The long laps and enclosed nature of the marina ensures there are no currents or rip tides to fight against. These factors contribute to fast times for top swimmers and a perfect environment for beginners to get comfortable swimming in open water.”
The entry fee is R180 for the 3km and 1km swim, while the cost for the 500m event is R100.
Various prizes will be up for grabs. For entries and infomation, visit www.zsport.co.za.
