MAIZE meal, sugar, rice, milk and eggs – and big smiles.

Hundreds of less-privileged residents received much-needed food parcels last week amid the national lockdown period.

A “miracle” for hungry residents.

The St Francis Rotary Club – in conjunction with the St Francis United Church, the local Disaster Volunteer Group (DVG) and the Samaritans – distributed 500 food parcels to residents in Sea Vista last week Wednesday and Friday.

Each food parcel, at a cost of R200, contains essential products like maize-meal, sugar, eggs, rice, soup packets, flour, milk and oil.

Sourced and assembled through the Village SuperSpar, the parcels were delivered to the various areas within the Sea Vista community – including the informal settlements – in over four hours. According to the DVG, it was made possible through the amazing efforts of the ten on-the-ground Sea Visa volunteers and community leaders in each area, who identified the recipients.

“They were working tirelessly.”

The DVG was, furthermore, assisted by the local police and Smhart Security.

It is their goal to raise a minimum of R1.5 million for at least 7 500 food parcels.

“This is a long term project as the future is unknown. The good helpers are all volunteers, who expect nothing in return. Your support is paramount, and together with the St Francis United Church and Rotary St Francis, we thank you.”

Donations for food hampers can be made to FOSSFAR at Standard Bank, account number: 186512139, reference: Food Relief Fund and your surname.
