READY . . . Steady . . . Pedal!
The seventh annual JBay Wind Farm Mountain Bike Challenge is set to take place at Twin Valley Nature Estate on Saturday, June 29 – offering an epic day out for the whole family.
The event, offering something for all mountain-bike skill and fitness levels, will consist of three routes: 85km, 50km and 25km ride to run on out-and-back routes.
The 85km marathon and 50km marathon will consist of big sections of single track, while the 25km fun ride is ideal for riders new to mountain biking.
All three routes take in the impressive Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, giving the race the distinction of being the only single-day race in the country which traverses a wind farm.
On the wind farm, riders will have the chance to ride along roads interspersed by 80m tall wind turbines towers, spread more than 500m apart.
The wind farm site spans 3 700 hectares on which there are 60 wind turbines. This project is one of the first and largest wind farms in South Africa.
Another great addition to the 2019 event is the addition of a 10km trail run and 5km fun walk. Both events will give participants the opportunity to experience the wind turbines.
There will furthermore be a marquee tent, a 10m Bedouin stretch tent, a live band, activities for the children and a spit braai for purchase by riders and supporters.
