THE sliding doors of Global Leadership Academy (GLA) – a school which dares to establish an innovative learning environment with firm core values – opened for the first time on January 13, 2010, as 65 learners entered the newly established school.

Significantly, the electric sliding doors of Equinox Mall, the initial home of GLA, would hold one of the biggest lessons for all at the school.

“For the doors to slide open, one has to take a step of faith,” says GLA Principal Stefan Kleyn. “This picture of what faith entails has reminded us often on our journey that faith in God, and in his calling over us, remains the central activator for all our endeavours and initiatives.

“While we today celebrate 10 years of God’s goodness and provision over us, we do so with an invitation for you to become part of our family and our story.”

Why statement

According to Kleyn, their “why statement” is one of the foundations of their perspective. “It affirms that we are passionate and determined to see all children at GLA discover and realise their God-given potential.

“Teaching, while embracing this “why statement”, inspires and motivates us through tough times. It also underpins and gives direction to everything we do as teachers and mentors.”

Kleyn says that over the past few years, God has allowed the formation in them of a culture of excellence, diligence and faith. God has also placed in their hearts a desire to contribute and positively impact society.

“While helping every learner discover and develop their God-given potential, we encourage them to respond to God’s call to live lives of impact,” he says. “The best way to do this is to model authentic leadership to learners through local and international outreaches.

The joy and privilege of spending time with learners on outreaches cannot be underestimated. It is here that we allow them to see the value of a positive impact on society.

“We shall never be able to compromise on this – in fact, it is at the heart of how we define quality education: schooling that inspires learners to impact society.
