Global Leadership Academy employees proved their mettle conquering the challenging 87.7km Comrades Marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, showcasing determination, teamwork, and personal triumph.

The event on June 11 set the scene for the successful completion of the marathon by three tenacious staff members, Paul du Plessis and Jennie Boersma, who are teachers at the school, and Mariana Bornman, an office staff member.

Du Plessis said that what began as a friendly challenge among colleagues culminated in an inspiring achievement, with each participant pushing their limits and surpassing their expectations.

The trio’s relentless training and unwavering dedication were evident as they crossed the finish line, capturing the essence of the marathon’s gruelling nature.

Du Plessis said of note is Bornman, whose exceptional performance earned her an impressive 15th place in her age category.

“Mariana’s commitment and determination shone through as she pushed herself to the limit, showcasing her athletic prowess and setting a remarkable example for her colleagues and peers,” said Du Plessis.

In addition to Bornman’s outstanding achievement, both Du Plessis and Boersma managed to achieve personal bests during the race.

Their dedication and hard work paid off, highlighting their commitment to personal growth and self-improvement.

Reflecting on their accomplishment, the trio coined the slogan, “This was a race of grace,” emphasising that with God nothing is impossible.

Looking ahead to future challenges, Du Plessis said that he is preparing to compete in the Ironman 70.3 in Mossel Bay.

With the Comrades Marathon triumph under his belt, he said that he is eager to embark on the next chapter of his athletic journey, representing GLA with distinction.
