Choral music lovers in Jeffreys Bay and surrounds can look forward to an afternoon of uplifting and inspiring choral music at Jeffreys Bay Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon, June 15.

SingFonix Male Voice Ensemble from Pretoria and Arbitrio Male Choir from Gqeberha will share the stage with local group, Sound Waves Vocal Ensemble, to express their love of music and choir-singing in particular.

SingFonix is a male voice ensemble that was established at the beginning of 2017.

The group’s name is derived from the well-known musical term “symphony”, which refers to a composition for musical instruments. “SingFonix” refers to music of which the sound (“Fonix”) is sung (“Sing”).

SingFonix offers a variety of choir music: sacred music, light classical music, contemporary music and folk music from South Africa and around the world. The musical message is one of love, belief, nostalgia and joy.

SingFonix is under the musical directorship of Dr Riekie van Aswegen, a seasoned and experienced choir leader who has conducted a number of well-known choirs.

The members are all involved in their own careers, but there is one common goal shared by the group of men: a calling to offer their God-given voices to the benefit of each listener. In the 2018 World Choir Games, SingFonix won the Open Competition category.

The Arbitrio Male Choir may not need much introduction. This choir was established in 1977 and is currently under the musical direction of Elbe Coetsee.

The choir is known for its diverse repertoire, including contemporary, gospel and classical repertoire.

Sound Waves Vocal Ensemble was founded in September 2022 in Jeffreys Bay.

Having a deep love of choral music, Rose Graham established the vocal group, drawing on the vocal talents of the local community, including choral enthusiasts from St Francis Bay.

This mixed voice choir has performed frequently in Jeffreys Bay, and in its short existence has enjoyed musical collaborations with Hemiola, Cantando and Andante, three well-known choirs in Gqeberha.

Most recently, Sound Waves participated in the opening concert of Kunskoors. Their repertoire is diverse, with a focus on sacred music, but also including folksongs and light contemporary music.

The Jeffreys Bay community is invited to come and enjoy this musical celebration on Sunday, June 15, at Jeffreys Bay Methodist Church at 15:30.

A donation of appreciation would be welcomed at the door after the performance.
