The eighth edition of the J-Bay Windfarm MTB Classic & Trail Run took place on Saturday, July 15, as part of the much-loved Jbay Surf Festival 2023.

Some 500 mountain bikers and trail runners across a wide range of ages and skill levels tackled some of the finest trails around the Eastern Cape holiday town of Jeffreys Bay.

Hailing from Gqeberha, Jayden Durrant and Kelsey van Schoor were the convincing winners of the 60km ride, and Rodney Prins and Asanda Zamisa were awarded first place in the 10km trail run (male and female categories, respectively).

Being carbon-free clean sports, mountain-biking and trail running fit Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm’s ethos perfectly, and furthermore are a firm favourite within the local community. The very special experience of riding and running among the wind turbines and the spectacular trails lure riders and runners back each year, along with the sense of community that really defines the event.

“Our whole family participated in the 30km cycle race and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful weather and beautiful scenery – and of course our children loved the opportunity to cycle so close to the wind turbines, being able to hear the sounds of the blades hissing past,” said Pieter Oosthuizen, Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm asset director.
