“I saw people crying in disbelief at the amazing generosity of our Kouga community, who gifted thousands of litres of water to the residents of drought-stricken Adelaide in the Eastern Cape . . .”’

Loekie van Schalkwyk from Jeffreys Bay posted this response after she and husband Conrad transported thousands of litres in the drive with Gerhardt Fouché of Jeffreys Bay Online to lend aid to the despe-rate need of the small town.

Jeffreys Bay Online posted that Adelaide residents “only have water every three days, when water is pumped out of local rivers and into the municipal infrastructure.”

The cry from Adelaide reached the ears of Jeffreys Bay locals, who responded to the requests on social media.

An overwhelming amount of support streamed in.

Some 4 000 litres of water left the town on the previous Sunday morning for Adelaide.

The Kouga Municipality Department of Waste Management and Environmental Affairs provided transport.

Conrad and Loekie coordinated and transported the water using the Loadrunner with trailer, sponsoring the fuel for this trip.

Various businesses volunteered to be used as drop-off areas.
