JEFFREYS BAY – The first-ever JBay Polar Bear Swim has been hailed as a triumph, with organisers reporting an impressive turnout across the four swim time slots hosted on Monday, 1 September.

According to organiser, Rian Grobler, swimmers from many of the town’s clubs and groups joined the icy plunge, along with fitness enthusiasts from across the area.
He said the event was not only about braving the cold water but also about uniting people with shared passions.
“It was a great unifying event,” Grobler noted, adding that many participants had the chance to meet others within the broader swimming community.
He expressed excitement that the swim had created such a strong sense of camaraderie among participants.
Following the success of the Polar Bear Swim, Grobler confirmed that the event would become a yearly tradition in Jeffreys Bay.
In addition, he announced that monthly get-togethers would now be organised, giving swim groups and fitness enthusiasts more opportunities to connect.
These gatherings would include chances to help each other train for upcoming galas and swim events, ultimately strengthening the town’s swim culture.
Grobler said he was excited to see this event take root, explaining that the Polar Bear Swim had been a glimpse of what could grow in the future.
“The people loved it,” he reflected, adding that the swim community in JBay was set to build momentum and expand together.
He confirmed that he looked forward to planning more events, building on the success of this inaugural plunge.
