The Kou-Kamma Local Municipality has announced with great sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of Councillor Pieter Meyer.
According to the municipality, Meyer passed away during the evening of June 21, after a short illness.
In a statement released by the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, they expressed that the community has been robbed of a valuable leader.
Meyer served as Ward 1 Councillor for the African National Congress (ANC) and was an active member of the Community Services and Technical Portfolio Committee.
“His contributions to the work of the Council and his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of residents will be remembered by all who had the privilege to work alongside him,” the statement said.
Mayor Sam Vuso expressed his profound shock and sorrow at the news.
“I am devastated by the loss of Councillor Meyer. On behalf of the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, I send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and the community of Kou-Kamma that he served. May the family find solace in knowing that we all painfully share their loss,” said Vuso.
“He was a dedicated public servant, a voice for the voiceless and a pillar of strength in his community. We have not only lost a colleague, but also a friend and a true champion for social development.”
The municipality has encouraged everyone to keep Meyer’s family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
“The late Councillor Meyer will be sorely missed by his family, friends, his fellow Councillors and Comrades,” the statement said.
