Kouga Council to buy land for houses

THE Kouga Council is stepping in to unlock the development of RDP housing at KwaNomzamo and Loerie.

The Council resolved at a meeting last week to purchase land in these two areas for the development of government-subsidised houses.

Alderman Ben Rheeder, who heads the municipality’s Planning and Development Portfolio, said housing delivery had come to a standstill at KwaNomzamo and Loerie because of a lack of suitable land.

“We have, therefore, identified possible land for development and will be submitting offers to purchase these portions, subject to final approval by the Kouga Council,” he said.

The land earmarked at Loerie is the Loerie River Farm No. 436, portion 98. The estimated market value is R560 000, according to an independent valuation report.

At Humansdorp two portions of Farm 689 have been identified for possible acquisition. The estimated market value is R2,6 million, according to the official municipal valuation roll.
