THE cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Kouga region has increased to 1 175.
This is according to the latest report that was tabled by the Department of Health at the Kouga Joint Operations Committee meeting on Tuesday.
“The recovery rate for the area has remained steady at 83%, which is encouraging. That means almost 1 000 Kouga residents have already beaten the disease,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks.
He said 26 COVID-19-related deaths had thus far been recorded and expressed his deepest condolences to those who have lost family, friends and colleagues to the disease.
The number of active cases currently stands at 171.
According to the latest report, the number of active cases per area is as follows: Andrieskraal 2, Hankey 15, Humansdorp 80, Jeffreys Bay 38, Loerie 18, Oyster Bay 0, St Francis and Cape St Francis 1, and Thornhill 9.
Hendricks urged residents to remain vigilant.
“Residents are reminded to practice good hygiene and to wear masks when in public. Stay at home if possible. Avoid crowds and maintain social distancing if you do need to go out,” he said.
“These are the best ways to protect both yourself, your loved ones and community from the pandemic.”
