MILLIONS of Rands are being poured into Kouga Municipality’s war on leaks.
Kouga Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks said about R27-million of the disaster funding the municipality had received, was being put towards this.
“Work to be done includes the replacement of old pipes at Hankey, Patensie and Oyster Bay.”
The repair of internal leaks at houses in historically disadvantaged areas is also underway.
“To date a total of 541 houses at Hankey, Patensie, Loerieheuwel and Thornhill have been retrofitted with the grant funding,” he reported in the State of the Municipality Address.
He said the municipality has also made it easier for citizens to report burst pipes and faulty water meters through the Kouga call centre and Link service delivery application.
During the first seven months of this financial year, that is, from July 2018 to January 2019, a total of 2 694 water-related complaints were resolved through the call centre and Link app.
