THE hunt is on for a new Chief Financial Officer to lead Kouga Municipality’s Finance department.
This follows the departure of CFO Selwyn Thys earlier this month.
Thys has taken up the position of CFO at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. He spent four years at Kouga.
“This is a keenly-felt loss for Kouga, but a wonderful opportunity for Mr Thys,” said Kouga Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks.
“He was an asset and great leader since the first day he started at Kouga in January 2015.”
During his time as CFO, Thys helped to ensured that Kouga Municipality became financially sustainable and put in control measures to prevent fraud and corruption from taking place.
He further ensured that the municipality obtained a clean audit for its financials for the 2018/19 year.
“My focus as CFO was always on the organisation and not the sideshows. The sideshows are there to distract you from what you need to achieve,” Thys said at his farewell.
His advice to his successor is: “Embrace your team, don’t knock them down.”
He said he would miss everyone he got to know during his time at Kouga.
“It was really rewarding to work with you.”
Applications for the position of CFO at Kouga Municipality closes on Friday, January 24.
