Kouga Municipality issues cyber alert after email accounts compromised

Kouga Local Municipality’s ICT Department has detected an alarming surge in cyber attacks, with criminals increasingly distributing malicious links and launching sophisticated phishing campaigns against official municipal email addresses.

Kouga Local Municipality ICT Department has noted a sharp rise in phishing attempts and the circulation of malicious links targeting official municipal email accounts.

The municipality has urged all residents not to click on any suspicious links claiming to be from Kouga Local Municipality employees.

According to a statement released by the municipality, these cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and several municipal email accounts have already been compromised.

“If you receive an unexpected or questionable email from a Kouga employee, do not open any links or attachments,” the statement said.

The municipality has advised people to contact it directly at 042 200 2200 if they receive any questionable emails.
