Through a partnership with InFood Roastery, these aspiring baristas recently completed an internationally accredited course with the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) – a qualification recognised worldwide as the gold standard in coffee education.
A group of passionate students from Jeffreys Bay Technical TVET College has taken its first step towards global opportunities in the specialty coffee industry.
With commitment, energy, and hard work, every student not only passed the course but gained far more than just a certificate. They acquired confidence, hands-on skills, and industry-ready knowledge, opening doors to both local and international careers in the coffee sector.
This collaboration between Jeffreys Bay Technical TVET College and InFood Roastery demonstrates the transformative potential of education and industry working together. It’s about more than just making coffee; it’s about creating opportunities for young adults to work towards a brighter future.
“These young people are now equipped with the tools to thrive, whether in a local café or a high-end coffee bar across the globe,” says Percy Chikwira, an authorised SCA Trainer.
Chikwira further reflects:
“Local’s Blend was never just about the roast; it’s about people and our community. Every cup sold of our Local’s Blend has helped fund training and scholarships, giving people real skills and real opportunities. When you sip Local’s Blend, you’re not just enjoying a great coffee; you’re contributing to someone’s future.”
