The Battle of the Karoo, held on March 1 in Oudtshoorn, marked a stunning talent showcase for the resolute members of Botha’s Kickboxing Club, with their hard work and determination translating into outstanding achievements on the mat.
Sensei Phillip van Zyl took home gold in the Senior Men over 94kg Points division and silver in Light Continuous.
Senpai Ruan Jordaan showed incredible grit, securing fourth place in Points and bronze in Light Continuous in the Senior Men u/89kg category.
Senpai Taylor Urquhart delivered an awe-inspiring performance, claiming three golds in the Senior Ladies’ u/55kg Points, Light Continuous, and Kick Light divisions. She also secured a silver in Points u/60kg.
Emile de Klerk added to the club’s success with three silver medals in the Men’s u/74kg Points, Light Continuous, and Kick Light divisions.
Their exceptional skill did not go unnoticed, as van Zyl, Jordaan, and Urquhart have been selected by the Eastern Cape Kickboxing Association to represent the Eastern Cape in Kickboxing.
Louwrens was also selected as head of the Eastern Cape Kickboxing Association.
Each person chosen will proudly represent their province at the SAKA WAKO South African Championships in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, from April 26 to 29.
