Three academy paddlers, Munda Tiya, Kamva Nkosinkulu and Berven Titus, all from Sea Vista, have qualified and were selected to train at the Landes-Kanu-Verband Niedersachhsen Club in Germany, from July 7 to 17, as part of an exchange programme.

According to Dave Louw, a local development coach who trains the paddlers at least six days a week, the paddlers will train three times daily and participate in a race, together with top international paddlers.

Both Titus and Tiya began paddling in 2017 as Sea Vista Primary learners, when they were 10 and 11 years old. Nkosinkulu, also a learner at Sea Vista Primary, began in 2021. Titus is currently at Nico Malan High School, while Nkosinkulu and Tiya are at Humansdorp High School. Louw said that over the years they have participated in various races all over the country with amazing results.

“They are highly motivated, as they have learned that paddling can be their ticket to a bright future. For example, some of my academy paddlers have found permanent positions as lifeguards in Dubai,” said Louw.

He said that he has been working with academy paddlers since 2011 and has shared his passion and other life lessons with the boys.
