The Coastal Touchies Blues came out tops in the Easter Je’Vista One Touch rugby tournament at Jeffreys Bay’s main beachfront on Saturday, April 16.

The tournament, which saw a full field of 21 teams (of which four were all-girls’ teams) participating on the day, formed part of the Kouga Easter Festival that took place from April 15 to 18.

Hundreds of sports lovers gathered at Dolphin Beach to cheer on their favourite teams, some having travelled all the way from Gqeberha to participate in the tournament.

The Coastal Touchies Blues team was crowned the Je’Vista One Touch champion after beating the Loerie Giants in the gruelling final match.

In the junior league, the Bashews Scorpion Kings took first place, while the Metrofibre Try Babies came second.

A highlight on the day was the fun match between Kouga Municipality and Je’Vista – which was played after the semi-finals.

With only seconds left on the clock, Kouga Deputy Municipal Manager and former award-winning rugby player, Dawie de Jager, scored the winning try for Kouga Municipality.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, thanked all the organisers, participants, and sponsors for making the tournament possible.

“We are on a mission to turn Kouga into the events capital of South Africa, so as to help grow the local tourism industry and related job opportunities,” he said.

“The municipality has, therefore, been taking hands with organisations and businesses to host events such as the Easter programme. We want there to be regular events across our region to increase visitor numbers and boost the local economy.”
