HUMANSDORP – The intensification of high visibility patrols by multi-disciplinary forces in the Humansdorp area has yielded positive results, as fines valued over R52,000 were issued during Safer Festive Season Operations on 31 October.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, a total of 50 people were either fined or nabbed for offences ranging from traffic offences to the contravention of the Immigration Act.

“The multidisciplinary forces comprising the police, Home Affairs, Zibar Security, Kouga Local Municipality Traffic and Law Enforcement officers painted the area blue through an aggressive crime prevention approach, and left no room for criminal elements to operate,” said Nkohli.

The following successes were recorded during the operation: Three suspects were arrested for possession of illicit drugs.

Seven spaza shop owners were fined for contravening the municipal by-laws and the total value of the fines was R15,500.

Additionally, 28 motorists were fined for various traffic offences, with a total value of R37,400.

At least 10 foreign nationals are facing deportation for contravening the Immigration Act, and a tavern owner was served with a compliance notice for leaving an unregistered manager to run a liquor outlet.

Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo has praised the foot soldiers.

“For this operation, we were just displaying our level of readiness with our partners. The district will be launching its Safer Festive Season Operations in Graaff Reinet soon, and more partners will join our operations, as we prepare to heighten our operations during this time of the year,” said Naidoo.
