BUILDING plans with an estimated total value of R330-million were approved by Kouga Municipality during the first six months of the current financial year.

This was reported by Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks in his State of the Municipality Address.

The Mayor said the Planning and Development department of the municipality had been beefed up considerably and additional staff appointed to help ensure that all building plans are processed within 30 to 60 days of submission, depending on the magnitude of the work to be done.

The Town Planning section of a municipality plays a critical role in local economic development, as it is often the first contact point for potential investors. We would, therefore, like to make it as easy as possible for both residents and potential investors to access this service.”

A Town Planning Forum, including stakeholders from the building and related sectors, has further been established to help identify and address blockages in the process.
