MORE than 300 families have food on their table again thanks to a fund-raising initiative by Kouga municipal employees.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said food parcels, purchased with donations made by staff, were distributed to families in need across the region on Friday.

“Covid-19 has not been friendly, especially to the poorest of the poor,” he said.

“Many of our staff are involved in community initiatives that support those less fortunate, but they also wanted to do something together, as a municipal team.”

He thanked everyone who had contributed to the initiative, including external donors who ensured that fresh produce could be added to the parcels.

“It may seem like a small gesture, but each food parcel is a lifeline for families struggling to make ends meet during these unprecedented times,” he said.

He congratulated the municipality’s Planning, Development & Tourism directorate for raising the most funds for the outreach. They were closely followed by the Community Services directorate.
