SUN . . . surf . . . sand . . . and action-packed netball.
The second annual Beach Netball Tournament, presented by the Sarah Baartman Netball Association, will take to the sand in Jeffreys Bay on Saturday, April 11.
Sarah Baartman Netball Association Chairlady and event organiser, Anina Vlok, says, “Beach netball is just like ordinary netball – but not as we know it. It is a combination of netball and the beach – my two loves.
“Jeffreys Bay is the perfect location for beach netball, and we cannot wait to see you all kicking it on the sand.”
The tournament will see top netball teams from across South Africa battling it out in the four different categories: senior ladies (born 2000 and older), senior mixed (born 2000 and older) and junior girls (born between 2002 and 2007).
A team must consist of no more than six players, with a maximum of three male players in the mixed team category. A maximum of four players and a minimum of three players will be allowed on the court at any given time.
A player may dive on the sand to catch a ball on the full, or claim possession of a ball on the sand.
Matches will be two five-minute halves, with a mi-nute interval between the halves.
There will also be a three-minute break between the matches.
Prize money to a total value of R15 000 will be up for grabs.
The entry fee is R200 per team.
Registration is at 08:00 on Saturday, April 11. Only registered and paid players will be allowed to play during the beach netball tournament.
