THERE is a new creative, cultural jive in town that serves a good cuppa.
Boogie Slide ’n Jive is the new hub with coffee, convenience food, art, new and vintage products, work stations and a studio; All conveniently near to the surf spots, the beach and popular accommodation in Jeffreys Bay.
The unique name comes from co-owner Clinton Theron’s Instagram label where he showcases his cinematography. Clint is the creative director who is in cahoots with Aimée Thompson whom he calls the “backbone”, and the popular Jan-Lodewyk du Toit, also known as Ludi.
Both men, now in their early 30s, grew up here, attended High School Nico Malan in Humansdorp, and share a similar view of surfing.
Clint is a photography purist who works with film, has a studio and darkroom in the back and will conduct workshops. He explains that the idea of a 1950s club appealed to them, and they found the space ideal when Clint held an exhibition there during exit month of Fifth Wave Coffee.
“It is a cool venue to use for our multi-focused venture,” says Clint.
Their focus will be on the gallery and vintage retail space with the surf vibe, which ties in with the beach across the road. Ludi’s area of expertise is the planned events and hosting evenings.
Workstations will accommodate those who pop in for a brew, a bite and online work or studies.
“We will be open later. We might even have a ramp for skateboarders at the back.”
