Pack water if you are headed for Kouga

If you are heading for Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Gamtoos Valley or St Francis Bay – whether it is for a well-deserved holiday or a weekend – please bring along as much drinking water as you can.

If you are heading for Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Gamtoos Valley or St Francis Bay – whether it is for a well-deserved holiday or a weekend – please bring along as much drinking water as you can.

This is the appeal from Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, as Day Zero – the day the dams run dry – is fast approaching.

The Kouga region is in the grip of a devastating drought and was declared a disaster area in May 2017. Dam levels this week stood at 14.16% (Kouga), 14.73% (Impofu), 20.79 (Churchill) and 37.71% (Loerie).

“We would like to appeal to all visitors heading this way to bring along a five-litre bottle of drinking water or more. It may not sound like a lot, but water supply levels are critical and every drop counts,” said Hendricks.

“If everyone packs a bottle, it will go a long way towards easing the pressure on the water supply as a whole.
