THE 14th annual Pam Golding Properties Canals Winter Challenge will take to the water in St Francis Bay on Sunday, July 21 – seeing avid paddlers battling it out for winning glory.
The adrenaline-packed event will consist of three categories: 20km long course, 10km short course and 3km guppy course.
The course will follow a 5km time trail route through the sheltered picturesque canals with an outgoing tide – making for a fast straight paddle down the old main canal.
This will be followed by some hard paddling into the tide from the small boat harbour to the cove.
The 10km route is made up for two laps, while the 20km route will complete four laps – both races being a doubles race.
Local paddler and 2017-winner, Phil Smith, will team up with local paddler Stephan Vorster in a bid to secure the winning title.
The first three participants crossing the finish line in the 20km event, will paddle away with a combined prize money of R3 000.
Winners in the following categories will also receive prizes: ladies, mixed, over 55, guppies, juniors and first locals to cross the finish line.
Carbonology split paddles, valued at R2 500, will be up for grabs as a lucky draw prize.
Registration will take place at Quaysyde in Sea Glades Drive, St Francis Bay, from 09:90 to 09:30, followed by the race briefing at 09:45.
Paddlers will take to the water at 10:00.
The entry fee is R150 per person and includes a light lunch. Participants can enter only on the day of the event.
