Members from Patensie Police Station helped a 40-year-old
woman to deliver a baby boy yesterday morning, March 22, after the woman’s
frantic boyfriend stormed into the police station and called members to assist
his girlfriend who was in the vehicle and already in labour.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, it
is alleged that on Monday at around 10:35, a man frantically stormed into
Patensie Police Station and asked members to help his pregnant girlfriend, who
was lying in the backseat of his vehicle parked outside the police station and
was in labour.

“Five members and a civilian (woman) opened the vehicle, and
turned it into a labour vehicle. Some members brought essentials such as water
and gloves while one of the members rushed to the nearest clothing store to
purchase essentials such as receiving blankets,” said Nkohli.

“Fifteen minutes later, the
woman gave birth to a baby boy.”

Nkohli said moments later, the ambulance ferried the woman
and her baby to the nearest hospital.

He further said it was reported that both mother and baby
were in good condition.

The baby weighed 2.83 kilograms at birth.

Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok said,
“Police stations are operating as 24-hour first-stop community centres, to
ensure that residents are assisted with relevant services. We applaud all the people who were involved in assisting the couple.”
