SHE does not have a herd of reindeer, not even Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer, or a magical red bag filled with toys, but she is determined to bring cheer and goodwill to those who need it most – especially the children.
Thornhill resident and founder of the non-profit organisation Sisterhood, Ziyanda Kilimani, will host a fun and educational Christmas Kiddies Charity Tour from December 23 to December 25.
The three-day tour – set to stop in Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay, Longmore, Rooidraai and Sunnyside – consists of two legs: an awareness programme to gain more information from homeless children to help reunite them with their families, as well as a fun Christmas programme where children will have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa Claus and have their faces painted.
They will also be treated to something to eat and drink.
“It is very painful to see a 7-year-old on the street with no food,” says Kilimani. “They feel hopeless during this dark time in their lives.
“I want to show them that there are people that care and want to help them. I want to share the little I have and spend Christmas Day with them – teaching them what Christmas is all about.
“There are few things more fulfilling – to realise simple acts of kindness can touch people so deeply, brighten their outlook and lift their spirits, and bring a whole new meaning to ‘Happy Holidays’. And in doing so, change their lives forever.”
To make this possible, she needs the help of local residents and organisations. “Clothes, juice and ingredients for hot dogs will be much appreciated,” she says.
