The Kouga Local Municipality announced on Monday that the Seekoei Estuary Causeway would be closed from May 7, and remain inaccessible to vehicles until further notice.

Following the site handover, which took place last Tuesday, April 29, during the initial commencement meeting, officials have finalised arrangements for the closure.

The Municipality has successfully negotiated with contractors to permit pedestrian access across the causeway at designated times, between 07:15 and 07:30 in the mornings and from 17:00 to 17:15 in the evenings.

Officials emphasised that under no circumstances will motorised transport be permitted to cross the causeway, which will remain under constant surveillance throughout the closure period.

Motorists are advised to utilise the alternative Langkloof Bricks gravel road, which has been prepared for increased traffic.

Road users are urged to exercise caution and consideration when travelling on this route.

To assist with traffic management, the Kouga Traffic Department will deploy officers at the T-junction where the Langkloof Bricks-Lombardini Road meets the R102.

This service will operate on weekdays during peak hours — from 06:00 to 08:30 in the mornings and from 15:00 to 18:00 in the evenings.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about further developments through official municipal communications.
