THE Glenconnor Agricultural Association, in conjunction with The Co-op, will hold an Agricultural Information Day at Mayogi Bomas at 07:30 on Wednesday, March 11.

Aimed at promoting information-sharing among farming disciplines in the Eastern Cape region, The Co-op is the main sponsor of this biannual event.

The programme line-up includes inspiring speakers that are synonymous with the global agricultural industry.

Dr Theo de Jager, President of the World Farmers’ Organisation will be discussing world trends in agriculture and their potential impact on the South African Agricultural Industry.

Other speakers include Pierre Vercueil, President of Agri SA (Land Expropriation without Compensation); Dawie Roodt, Chief Economist at the Efficient Group (The South African Economy in an Uncertain World); Dr Johan Kriek, owner of Mattanu Private Game Reserve (The Future of the Game Industry) and Peter Mitchley, Alternative Energy Specialist (Alternative Energy and the Impact of Eskom on Agriculture).

In addition, as an exclusive opportunity, one of SA’s most loved rugby personalities will join the impressive line-up of speakers. Guests will hear from Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s Director of Rugby, how to keep your eye on the ball, even when faced with setbacks and adversity.

The day promises to be a melting pot of networking, experience-sharing and visio- sharpening.

Co-op suppliers are also committed to the versatility of the information day by bringing their businesses to attendees. Exhibition stands will be activated during the day for the convenience of those present, with a hunting rifle being one of the many items that are up for grabs on the day, as well as a customised, handcrafted carving knife.

In true Karoo-style the day will end off with a ‘liplekker’ braai.

“The Co-op’s partnerships with local farming associations are the epitome of its vision of being the leading agricultural business in Africa that ensures the profitability of its members and the development of its communities and environment on a sustainable basis,” says Henk Agenbach, CEO of The Co-op. “By supporting local platforms it strengthens the unity and camaraderie that are often found among similar trades, and in particular, South African farmers.

“An agricultural business generally operates within an environment that has many variables. The Info Day aims to provide technical know-how and practical advice that affect farmers across the board.”

“The Co-op is dependent on its members and successful because of their participation and involvement. We support opportunities where our members can share their successes and learn from one another in the process.”

The Agricultural Information Day will take place at Mayogi Bomas – 40km outside Port Elizabeth on the R75 (near Kirkwood), at 07:30 on Wednesday, March 11.
