MORE than 40 local SMMEs have been invited to quote for the installation of new play parks in the Kouga region.

Kouga Speaker, Hattingh Bornman, said 19 new play parks were set to be funded through the municipality’s Ward Development Fund.

“The parks will be installed by local SMMEs as part of our commitment to supporting local business,” he said.

“With the COVID-19 lockdown having wreaked havoc on the economy, supporting local is now more important than ever.”

A total of 44 SMMEs gathered to watch the installation of the first new play park at C-Place, Jeffreys Bay.

“The first installation was done by the service provider who supplied the material. It served as a demo, so that SMMEs could see what was required and then submit quotations for the installation of the remainder of the parks,” Bornman explained.

“We would like to thank all ward councillors who nominated SMMEs from their areas for the project. It was wonderful to see so many local SMMEs in attendance.”

The other 18 Ward Development Fund parks are set to be installed in wards one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, nine, 10, 13, 14 and 15.

A further 11 parks will be funded by the municipality’s Community Services directorate, with the flagship park at Yellowwoods in Hankey also already having been installed.
