The winter months have proved tough for everyone this year, which led Stulting Primary in Humansdorp to launch a winter drive, with students donating blankets and toiletries to Ons Tuiste old age home in Humansdorp.

Stulting Primary teacher, Nicole De Raedt, reached out to local Good Samaritan, Samantha Huisamen, who donated samples from her salon and decided to assist in the drive on Tuesday, August 1, to present the packages to the senior citizens of Ons Tuiste.

The team made up packages of 160 bags filled with necessities, toiletries and treats donated by various businesses in the Kouga area, and they headed to the old age home with some of the students and surprised the residents with gift bags filled with all the collected items.

All who spent time there gave love and light to the elderly, with special touches like decorated bags and ribbons with messages on them.

“They don’t get to see people often, and seeing their faces light up when they saw the kids made it feel like Christmas day. This made all the effort worthwhile; thus teaching kids that community service is of the utmost importance and to make a difference in our community wherever you can,” says Huisamen.

The project was made possible by all involved, including Principal Cornelius Coetzer, admin secretary ,Colette van Dyk, Sam Huisamen from Smashed Beauty, teachers, Nicole De Raedt and Anjo Beukes, student teachers, Yannis Coetzer, Bianca Kaltenbrünn and Wilmé Jansen van Vuuren, prefects ,Connor Felix, Jodie Humby, Zelné Millard and Chad Beauzick, and all the students who donated and assisted.
