Sunny skies predicted for Wildsfees

A SUNNY weekend is forecast for the annual SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees taking place from June 28 to 30.


A SUNNY weekend is forecast for the annual SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees taking place from June 28 to 30.

“If the weather prophets are right, then festival goers can look forward to a perfect weekend filled with a jam-packed programme,” says Festival Director Jenni Honsbein.

The fun three days of “kuiering under the Karoo sky” kicks off on Friday, where the highlight is the annual Kirkwood Wildsfees Game Auction – organised in partnership with Nedbank and SANParks.

Bidding starts at noon, but the grounds will be buzzing with activity from 10:00.

Other highlights include a K9 dog show by Addo Elephant National Park’s ranger corps, taking place in the Vodacom Pavilion. The Wildsfees is furthermore home to the only new car show in the Eastern Cape, as well as one of the biggest agricultural shows.

Children can look forward to a fun fair and the Walk on the Wildside marquee.

Gourmet delights and sensational sounds can be enjoyed in the kykNET lifestyle area, while the Coca-Cola fun zone will be abuzz with fun activities for the kids all weekend.

Some of South Africa’s best artists, including Jo Black, Early B, Lira, Bok van Blerk and Nicholis Louw will take to the stage.

The action continues on Saturday, June 29 where festival-goers can enjoy a “lekker kuier” with friends and family.

The Flavourfontein Beach Bar will get festinos wiggling their toes in the sand at the Karoo’s only beach bar.

Festival goers can also take in a variety of events in the Vodacom Pavilion, kykNET lifestyle area and Coco-Cola Fun Zone.

Among the many food stalls, is the Afrikaans Taal en Kultuurvereenig-ing’s “Koek oppie Stoep”, co-sponsored by Die Burger.

The main Adventure Province Stage kicks off at 14:45 with Deon Groot, followed by Wicus van der Merwe, Refentse, Saarkie, Brendan Peyper, Juanita du Plessis, Ghapi, Jan Bloukaas and Robbie Wessels.

Ending off the night’s entertainment will be the spectacular Monster Flight Night – where some of the world’s top motorcycle daredevils will enthrall the crowd.

Sunday, June 30 is a day of “kuiering” with the Country Legends on the main stage at 10:00, followed by HunTer, Wynand and Cheree, Ricus Nel, Elizma Theron, Ray Dylan Die Campbells.

Those attending the festival can enjoy a traditional Skaapkop Langtafel Banquet, Friesian Horse shows, SAPS K9 Dog Show and Fun in the Coco-Cola Fun Zone.
