THE Jeffreys Bay Alzheimer’s Support Group will host an information sharing event on Friday, September 27 in aid of World Alzheimer’s Day.
Professionals in the field of Alzheimer’s will talk about the various aspects of the illness, with a special focus on how to effectively communicate with a person living with dementia.
Guidelines will also be given on how to manage a person living with Alzheimer’s in a care centre, as well as understanding the behaviour and moods of those living with dementia.
A speech therapist will focus on how to assist those with facing eating and swallowing challenges – often experienced by those in the more advanced stage of the illness.
A discussion to assist family members to adjust to the placement of a loved one in a care facility, will close the session.
