An exciting weekend with good weather saw Jeffreys Bay Golf Club (JBGC) host its much-anticipated annual Club Championships with two days of thrilling golf on April 5 and 6.
Emerging as the Overall Men’s Champion, Greg Manuel demonstrated consistent form and composure across both days to defend his title.
In the women’s competition, a determined Ronelle du Toit clinched the Ladies’ Overall Champion title with a standout performance that sealed the victory on the last hole.
Nett Champion honours went to Brian Alexander and Jenny Smith, whose steady play earned them the wins.
The competition in the men’s B division was just as fierce, with Nathan Combrinck taking the win and Dirk Linde clinching best nett.
In the C division, Johan Nienaber secured victory with 35 Stableford points.
A big highlight this year was the closely contested ladies’ Nett Champ playoff, the first in the club’s history.
After two tense playoff holes, Jenny Smith emerged victorious over Rolien Meiring and Mimi Rautenbach in what was one of the most exciting finishes in club history.
In the ladies’ section, the best putter accolades went to Annetjie Gerber on April 5 and Rolien Meiring on April 6, showing their touch on the greens.
Club President Lynn van Biljon handed over the trophies to all the winners and thanked all the players who participated, the ground staff and club manager, Willem Visser.
With good weather, friendly rivalry and sportsmanship, the weekend was a great success.
The club now sets its sights on making next year’s event bigger and better as the club also celebrates its 80th birthday.
The club welcomes visitors and offers reasonable playing fees and membership.
