Traffic Alert: Protest action on R75 towards Jansenville

Avoid R75 to Jansenville: Protests have blocked the road since early morning following the Sunday murder of a local resident in street shooting.

Motorists are advised to avoid the R75 towards Jansenville due to ongoing protest action that started early this morning, 20 May, in response to the alleged murder of a resident who was gunned down in the street on 18 May .

According to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, spokesperson for the South African Police Service in the Sarah Baartman District, a truck has been used to block the road, and protesters have taken its keys.

Authorities are working to resolve the situation, including arranging for spare keys from the trucking company.

Alternative routes are strongly recommended until further notice.

Police are on-site monitoring the situation.

It is alleged that on 18 May at around 19:40, police were summoned to a complaint of murder outside a shop at the corner of Bridge and Main Streets in Jansenville.

At the scene, police found the body of a man with gunshot wounds to the upper body.

He was later identified as Piet Tieman (53).

Nkohli confirmed that a case of murder was opened for further investigation and that police have launched a manhunt for two suspects believed to be involved in the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Elrico Arnolds, at 049 836 4400 or 082 551 4862.
