Two men died in separate incidents in the Sarah Baartman District
at the weekend after being stabbed in the upper body.
During the most recent incident this morning, Sunday, August
1, at approximately 01:30, a man was walking home with a 12-year-old child in
Ncede Street, Joza in Makhanda, when they were attacked by three men.
According to police spokesperson, Sgt. Majola Nkohli, one of
the suspects was overpowered and stabbed several times in the upper body. “The
two other suspects fled the scene when the minor started shouting for help. The
unknown suspect was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his
injuries,” Nkohli said.
The 34-year-old man was arrested for murder and contravening
the Disaster Management Act regulations.
“Investigations revealed that the two were coming from a
house party that was held not far from their home when they were attacked. The due to appear in the Makhanda Magistrates
Court on Monday, August 2, 2021, on charges of murder with additional charges
for contravening the Disaster Management Act regulations,” Nkohli added.
In a separate incident yesterday, Saturday, July 31, at about
14:30, a man from Woodlands near Storms River was arrested after it was alleged
that he fatally stabbed Karel Ferreira (56) with a knife. “It is alleged that the two men, both from
Woodlands, were drunk and started arguing over a cigarette. A fight ensued
between the men. Ferreira’s body was found in his house with a stab wound in
the upper body. A 49-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear in the
Storms River Magistrates Court on Monday, August 2, 2021, on a charge of murder,”
Nkohli concluded.
