JEFFREYS Bay festival-goers can look forward to a myriad of fun and action-packed activities: biker and beach bars, virtual reality bike racing, talent search competition, live entertainment, street dancing and a bike show.
“We hope to attract a minimum of 5 000 visitors to the first JBay Bike Fest – starting small and growing into the future,” says Wentzel.
Economic boost
Previous events hosted by the Bike Fest SA team generated between R158.4 million and R266.5 million to the local economy.
The cashless system, Howler, will be usedat the festival. All that is needed is a wristband in order to make a transaction.
Local biker
Local biker, Dean Gilbert, who is involved in the on-ground event organisation, says the Jeffreys Bay Bike Fest is set to be a ‘motorcycle wonderland’.
“Stopping in a small town like Jeffreys Bay, and being greeted by the friendly locals is what makes riding so great,” says Gilbert who has been riding a motorbike since he was 16 years old.
He attended his first Buffalo Rally in 1979 and currently drives a Harley Davidson Custom – the only one of its kind in the world – while his wife, Iris, is the proud owner of a Harley XL1200 Sportster and a Harley Softail Slim. His passion for motorbikes stems from the lifestyle and adrenaline you get from the driving experience.
“We encourage everyone to get their gear ready and experience the amazing biking, beautiful people and attractions we have on offer at the 2020 bike fest.”
Kouga Municipal Manager Charl du Plessis says they are positioning Jeffreys Bay as a top travel and tourism destination in South Africa.
“This region is an iconic surfing location, but we have extended the tourism experience beyond this. Our pristine Blue Flag beach is wonderful for swimming and relaxation, while the many seaside cafes, retail offerings and nature reserves make for an idyllic coastal getaway.”
He continues that the Jeffreys Bay Bike Fest works alongside the municipality’s mandate of extending the tourism footprint. “The Bike Fest programme is really packed with a wide variety of entertainment suited to bikers, music lovers, foodies and thrill seekers.”
