JEFFREYS BAY – The Kouga Local Municipality is urging all residents, businesses and visitors in Jeffreys Bay to reduce water consumption immediately.
This urgent call comes at a time that the town is filled to the brim with visitors for the summer season.
“Water usage in the area has reached critical levels, placing severe strain on already overburdened water resources. This situation is further aggravated by a limited supply from the Churchill Water System, due to factors beyond the Municipality’s control,” the municipality said in a statement today.
“Reservoir levels are dangerously low. Failure to reduce consumption immediately will result in widespread low water pressure or complete water outages.”
Residents are hereby instructed to:
Cease all non-essential water use immediately.
Suspend watering of gardens, washing of vehicles, and filling of swimming pools.
Repair all leaks without delay and report any water losses.
Use water strictly for essential domestic purposes only.
“This is an urgent and serious appeal—water must be conserved now to avoid supply interruptions. Kouga Local Municipality appreciates the cooperation of all residents during this critical period,” the statement read.
Water leaks can be reported at the municipality’s call centre at 081 760 9183 or 042 200 2200.
